The Amber Office

"A workplace that glows with purpose at dusk."

Location

Santa Monica, CA

Year

2023

Category

Commercial

Scope

Commercial Architecture + Workplace Design

Area

12,400 sq ft

The Amber Office challenges the clinical neutrality of contemporary commercial design. Located one block from the Santa Monica waterfront, the building was conceived as a lantern — a structure that radiates warmth as the day closes and the city dims around it.

The facade is a double-skin system of amber-tinted glass set within a grid of weathered brass fins, oriented to filter the harsh afternoon sun while amplifying the golden light of early evening. Inside, open floorplates are punctuated by a series of timber-lined meeting pods and a central atrium that draws natural light six floors to the lobby below.

The project was delivered through a rigorous sustainability process, achieving LEED Platinum certification with on-site solar, greywater recycling, and a green roof terrace accessible to all tenants.
